Ingredients
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples such as Granny Smith
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 prepared pie crusts homemade or store-bought
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter cut into small pieces
- 1 egg for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour.
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish. Add the apple filling and dot with butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim excess dough and crimp the edges to seal.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the top crust. Sprinkle with granulated sugar.
- Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35-40 minutes or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Allow the pie to cool before slicing.
