American Pancakes Recipe
American pancakes are a breakfast staple loved for their fluffy texture and sweet flavor. They are quick and easy to make, perfect for a leisurely weekend morning or a special brunch treat. Serve them with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or a dollop of whipped cream for a delightful start to your day.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup buttermilk or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- Additional butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and melted butter until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps in the batter are okay.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease with butter or oil.
- Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface of the pancake and the edges look set, about 2-3 minutes.
- Flip the pancake and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining batter, adding more butter or oil to the skillet as needed.
- Serve the pancakes warm with your choice of toppings such as maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
