Ingredients
  

  • 2 large onions cut into 1/2-inch thick slices, separated into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  • Pour the buttermilk into another bowl.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or a heavy-bottomed pot to 375°F (190°C).
  • Dip the onion rings into the buttermilk, then dredge them in the flour mixture, making sure to coat each ring thoroughly.
  • Shake off any excess flour and carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil, in batches, to avoid overcrowding.
  • Fry the onion rings for 2-3 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy, flipping them halfway through for even cooking.
